All About Us Our Story
Welcome to Rick’s CheeseSteak Shop
Rick’s Cheesesteak Shop was founded in 2010 by Rick Pistone, a second-generation cheesesteak maker carrying on a family legacy that began in the 1950s with the original Rick & Gil’s. Inspired by his Philly roots and years of cooking across New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Rick brought bold flavor, premium sirloin, and authentic tradition to Virginia.
After building a loyal following in Newport News, Rick’s expanded to Williamsburg, where the legacy now continues with local owners Ben and Jennifer Dabney. Longtime fans of Rick’s and proud Williamsburg residents, the Dabneys stepped in to keep the spirit alive.
With a passion for community and great food, they’re growing the Rick’s name through local partnerships, inclusive hiring, and a commitment to keeping every cheesesteak Philly-approved. Because while cheesesteaks may have been born in the City of Brotherly Love, they were revolutionized right here in the heart of the Historic Triangle.
Our Guestbook People Say About Us!
“We went here while on vacation. We ordered our food online and it was ready when when we got there. The employees were very nice and pleasant. We got two cheese steak subs, two hot dogs and fries for our son and a bacon cheese fries. All of which were very good. The bacon cheese fries had real bacon on top and not crumbles which was amazing. Would recommend this place and plan to eat here again when back in the area.”

“Rick’s was recommended by a friend and after I customized my cheese steak and had it walked over to me, I understood why he said it was worth the trip. They make a hearty sandwich. The bread wasn’t my favorite but the meat, cheese and mushrooms I had masked it well. Full of flavor and a reasonable price!”

“Our first time stopping here. We wanted something to pick up quickly and take back to the resort. I ordered online and picked to up at their location on Williamsburg. Looks like a small place from the outside, but tucked in a cute area, really have to look for it. I’m sure it’s a popular place when college is in full swing. We had ordered 2 steak Philly’s and 1 chicken Philly. They were all tasty, but we felt it needed some salt. Other than that I’d definitely order from Rick’s again. They have other items on the menu that we haven’t tried, lots of other subs and chili.”

“A traditional philly cheesesteak, you can never go wrong. The bread and the meat were both good. Nice volume of meat and cheese per bread ratio. Soft bread, didn’t break apart. Very good! Perfect place to get that craving out the way!”
